CaptureJohn Curtis head track coach Preston Curtis and jumper Malachi Dupre were part of something special in the 2A outdoor track meet in Baton Rouge.

John Curtis won the team title with 169 points. Evangel was second with 62 points.

Dupre won the high jump, long jump, and triple jump.

“It was a great feeling,” Dupre told WGNO Sports. “My helping the team and bringing 30 points to the team was a big thing.”

Dupre was also a key player on the 2012 Curtis 2A state basketball championship, the first such title for the boys in school history, and he’s one of the top football recruits in the country in the class of 2014.

“He can go out there, and that muscle memory kicks in, he gets it done,” Coach Curtis said. “Three events, three first place MVP. Yeah, he is a pretty special athlete.”
