Investigators are now classifying the suspicious death of a Metairie crime watch captain as a homicide.

When paramedics got to 39 year old Jerrel Oster`s home on Jane St. they found her lying on the floor suffering from a head injury.

JPSO detectives say it was the victim`s husband who came home to discover Oster on the couch, unresponsive, slumped over and bleeding from the nose.

They say he called 911 and tried to revive her over the phone.

Oster was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators detained Oster`s husband for questioning then released him late Wednesday.

An autopsy later revealed Oster died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Neighbors say Oster started up a crime watch program after confronting a burglar in her garage a few years ago.
