Ponchatoula Police are searching for a person of interest in an early morning shooting.

It happened Tuesday around 7:40am in the 39-thousand block of Brookfield Drive.

Neighbors say they heard yelling at the victim’s home, then frantic cries for help; followed by gunfire.

Responding officers found 39-year old April Vanderlinden had been critically injured.

She was later pronounced dead.

Police identified 19-year old Ryan Pourciau as a person of interest.

He’d reportedly dated the victim’s teenage daughter before a restraining order was issued against him.

“I was actually shocked because you don’t think something like this will happen so close to you,” neighbor Katherine Jones said.

“Right now this town, this city, this neighbor, this family needs prayers,” neighbor Kay Giambrone said.

Because Pourciau and the victim’s daughter have been students at Ponchatoula High School, authorities placed the school on lockdown for several hours.

The search for Pourciau continued well into the night.
