Monday afternoon, Archbishop Gregory Aymond stopped by the Rouses in Metairie to bless the store’s St. Joseph Altar.

The grocery store chain has four of the altars in the New Orleans area.  All of them were built by employees.

At the Metairie location, workers were thrilled to see the Archbishop stop by.  They say the practice of having the altars is all about tradition.

“We love to be able to participate in a local tradition like this, especially because our family is Italian.  My grandfather is the son of Italian immigrants.  We’re a 3rd generation grocer.  It’s so special to my family to paricipate in this Italian tradition,” said Allison Rouse.

Tuesday morning, Fr. Reale of the Immaculate Conception Church on Baronne Street will bless the altar at the Warehouse District store at 9:00.  Customers may also get a lucky fave bean immediately after the blessing.
