Friday afternoon, a group of state legislators and other elected officials gathered at a Metairie gun store to protect the Second Amendment.

The group is pitching a petition called Defend Louisiana.  They want people to sign the petition which aims to unify people across the state to protect gun owners’ rights.

“Allowing our fellow citizens to sign and show their stance in favor of gun rights, in favor of protecting our families,” State Rep. Jeff Thompson of Bossier City said shortly after signing the petition himself.

The lawmakers promised to keep people in the state up to speed on any gun legislation that makes its way through the legislature in the upcoming regular session.

The petition will be available for people to sign at a gun show this weekend at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner.
