Wednesday morning, the final editions of two north shore papers hit news stands.

The St Tammany News printed the news Banner and the Slidell Sentry News.

Both papers are shutting down.

They operated independently until 2005 but combined staffs after Hurricane Katrina.

The publisher says the papers have struggled financially for the last few years and the company is no longer able to absorb the loss every month.

The closing also means 24 people will lose their jobs.
