Jefferson Parish deputies are investigating the death of an elderly woman who was found shot to death in her home Friday night.
According to deputies, they responded to reports of gunfire shortly before midnight in the 300 block of 5th Street in Bridge City and found 81-year-old Doretha Richardson on the floor of the kitchen in her home.  She’d been shot multiple times.
Deputies believe the attacker(s) began firing shots from outside the home.  They say they found a trail of bullet casings leading from the street to the front door of Richardson’s home.  More casings were found inside the home.
Three other people who were inside the home, including a three-year-old girl, were unhurt during the attack.
Deputies say Richardson may have been caring for the child when the shooting began.  As of Friday night, they were uncertain if she was the intended target.
