NEW ORLEANS – Direct TV’s blimp is in New Orleans for the Super Bowl and WGNO’s Tyler Wing got a got an exclusive flight.

Fueled with 100 octane gas in the prop engines and helium to make it rise, Direct TV’s blimp has been flying high above major sporting events for five years.

The aerial footage camera operates from the inside while the actual camera is attached to the outside.

Pilot Jeff Capek uses foot pedals to steer and  a wheel on the side of his seat to control elevation.

Direct TV is also spearheading their annual Celebrity Beach Bowl on Saturday morning next to Mardi Gras World.

Come watch professional athletes and celebrities go head to head playing flag football for a free family event with some great music.
