Louisiana State Police say two passing motorists helped save a woman and her three kids who were trapped inside a car that was sinking in high water.

They say the crash happened on January 12 on LA 21.  Troopers say a car driven by Mary Woodward of Covington was forced off the road by an unidentified black sedan.  Woodward’s three children, ages 11, 9, and 7, were also in the car which veered into an area of high water at the base of the Bogue Chitto River Bridge.

According to Troopers, James Garner and his fiancée Sue Ann Barkman, both from Bush, stopped along with other unidentified Good Samaritans and helped Woodward and her children get out of the car before it sank below the surface of the water.

Thursday afternoon, divers with the St Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office attached cables to the sunken car allowing it to be pulled from the flooded area.
