Kentwood Police Chief Accused of Misusing $2,000 in Evidence

Kentwood’s police chief turned himself in to state police this morning.

Chief Gregory Newton has been charged with malfeasance in office and obstruction of justice.

State police say a citizen complained that $2,000 recovered after a burglary was misused.

They say Newton was the sole guardian of the money and is responsible for its misuse.
