Tuesday morning, demolition work will begin on the Rosenwald Center at the old B. W. Cooper Housing Development.

The center is 17,000 square feet in size and was opened in 1950.  Hurricane Katrina caused significant damage.

The city will replace the gym with a 24,000 square foot building that will include a gym, stage, meeting rooms, restore swimming pool, and snack bar.

The new building will cost $6.3 million and will be paid for with FEMA money, bonds, insurance, and state money.
