As of Wednesday night, New Orleans police would only call it an ongoing investigation.  But neighbors who knew 83-year-old Edward Richardson called it a tragedy that someone would stab him to death.

“He definitely was a good friend of mine,” said neighbor Harold Williams who also lives at the Terraces Apartments on Tulane avenue in Mid-City.

On New Year’s Day, police found Richardson dead inside his apartment.  The company that manages the complex says police have been given security camera video that is available.

The complex’s management company says tenants are allowed to bring guests into the building.  The company also says there was no sign of forced entry into Richardson’s apartment.  Neighbors want to know of the killer came from outside the complex or lives there.

“Everybody got nervous and scared about it.  This is not this kind of place.  It’s always a nice place, a friendly place, a real outgoing place. People are generally nice here.  And it was really a shock to everybody that something like this could happen,” Williams said.

The building’s security includes key pad entries for both cars and people on foot.  The building’s management company said Wednesday that there was no apparent breach in the property’s security system.
