Thousands of visitors are celebrating the start of 2013 in New Orleans.

With large crowds comes the need for added security.

New Orleans Police have partnered with State Police to beef up patrols in the downtown corridor.

500 officers are keeping watch of the most crowded areas; like the French Quarter, the Marigny, and the Riverfront.

“We love to come here, visitor Brenda Yashinsky said. “It’s awesome, it’s the most fun party place ever. We always come for Mardi Gras and New Years Eve.”

WGNO News Reporter Darian Trotter asked, “Do you feel safe? “I do, I feel very safe I haven’t felt uncomfortable at all here, visitor Kristin Oetken replied.”

Officers executed strict enforcement of DUI laws as part of the overall safety plan.
