This week’s VooDoo Athlete of the Week isn’t singular, it’s the best team in the country!

The John Curtis football team was named Mythical National Champion in at least seven polls, including the prestigious USA Today poll.

The Patriots rolled thru the regular season and playoffs, and in the state finals, beat Evangel 35-13 for the 2-A championship.

In the first quarter, linebacker Duke Riley returned a fumble 80 yards for a touchdown. In the second, running back Herman Badie broken open the game with a 72-yard touchdown run.

Curtis won its 25th state championship and was named Friday Night Football’s Smooth Team of the Year.
