Starting next year, the University of New Orleans will begin offering post-graduate certificate programs on hazard planning and hazard policy studies.

The university aims to help prepare local public servants, business people, educators and others to respond effectively in a crisis.

UNO says New Orleans will serve as a living laboratory where students can learn to deal with hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, oil spills and other natural disasters or homeland security issues.

The certification will require the completion of three courses and is designed for full-time or non-degree seeking students.
