The Orleans Public School District says its principals received instructions to help keep classes moving after word of the Connecticut shootings spread.

Interim Superintendent Stan Smith says in light of the massacre, keeping his students focused is key.

“Notify them of the incident and encourage them to be extra diligent in their activities today. You know we also encouraged them to stay on track, try to keep the students occupies and keep their minds working and things of that nature and try to help avoid the distraction that sometimes can come from something like this,” Smith told WGNO News Friday afternoon.
