The New Orleans Police Department arrested an officer Thursday.

John Ray is accused of taking cash from a local towing company.

Investigators say he then allowed only that company to tow in a specific city zone.

Ray is accused of taking 600 dollars between 2010 and 2011 to steer business in favor of the one company.

He has been placed on emergency suspension without pay.

Ray has been with the department for 37 years.
