Monday night, the legendary Galatoire’s restaurant auctioned off its tables for the Friday lunch before Christmas.  It’s one of two auctions the restaurant hosts every year.  The other is for the Friday lunch before Mardi Gras.

Monday’s auction raised more than $42,000 that will be donated to three charities, Operation Homefront Louisiana, Hermann-Grima Historic Houses, and the Youth Empowerment Project.

Galatoire’s has been auctioning the tables since 2006.  Prior to that, people would often wait in line — or pay someone to — overnight to have a seat for the special Friday lunches.

Since 2006, the auctions have raised about $800,000 for charity.
