Saints reach .500 with 38-17 rout of Raiders

The New Orleans Saints are again playoff contenders.

Drew Brees threw three touchdown passes, two to Lance Moore as the Saints beat the Raiders 38-17 in Oakland. The Saints are 5-5, after starting the season 0-4.

The last 0-4 team to reach the NFL playoffs was the 1992 San Diego Chargers.

The Saints jumped to a 14-0 first quarter lead. Brees threw a 1 yard touchdown pass to tight end Jimmy Graham. Safety Malcolm Jenkins then intercepted a Carson Palmer pass and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown.

The Saints intercepted Palmer twice and had three quarterback sacks.

The Saints also rushed for 153 yards on 28 carries. Mark Ingram rushed for 67. Brees was 20 of 27 passing for 219 yards.

The Saints trailed three 6-4 teams for the final playoff spot. They are Tampa Bay, Minnesota, and Seattle. The Bucs won at Carolina. The Vikings and Seahawks had a bye.

The Saints host the San Francisco 49ers Sunday. Kickoff at the Superdome is 3:20.
