Police say 28-year-old suspect Michael Singreen killed his father, 66-year-old Harry Singreen. His mother, 67-year-old Shirley Singreen, is still in the hospital in critical condition.

Early Sunday morning, New Orleans Police were called on to a house on the 200 block of Audubon Boulevard. Inside, officers found both victims suffering from head and body injuries. Police are trying to figure our if the couple was beaten or stabbed.

Harry Singreen died at the scene. Their neighbor, Jason Melancon, says he watched New Orleans Police officers remove Shirley Singreen from the family’s home once before. She was taken away in shackles.

The crime stunned the entire neighborhood including state representative Walker Hines. Last year while campaigning, Hines personally met Harry Singreen. Hines describes Singreen as a well respected, nice man who was interested in politics and improving his community.

Police say Michael Singreen will be booked with murder and attempted murder.
