Diploma Typo

STOCKTON, Calif. – After his diploma hung on the wall for more than ten years, Alex Harris noticed something odd. His UC Berkeley diploma has “a small typo in it.”

The Stockton native earned his mass communications degree in 2003. He told FOX40 he sent back the first and second diplomas he received in the mail because they were wrinkled, and one of them arrived in a grubby envelope.

“The third one they sent, we took a look at it and said ‘okay, looks great. No wrinkles.’ I put it in the frame, and it hung on our wall for several years,” said Harris.

But while packing up to move recently, his wife noticed something very wrong with the otherwise distinguished document. “I just heard this big laugh from the other room,” said Harris. “She actually noticed there was this typo.”

The first vowel in the word communications is a “U” instead of an “O.”

“When I saw it, it was just shock,” said Harris.

But when he posted a photo of his diploma to reddit he never expected it to go viral.

“A few million views,” said Harris. “It was a number one on Reddit. It was picked up by the Huffington Post, College Humor, and Ebaums World.”

“My cousin was telling me somebody in Germany was telling her about it,” Harris noted. “It did surprise me though how much it has gone viral.”

Alex is going to request a correct diploma, as long as he doesn’t have to return his now famous one.

“Maybe. . . Just maybe this will help you! It was hard for me to do this so don’t take it for granted!” Rick Ellis wrote on Facebook along with an emotional video he took in front of his daughter’s grave. He lost his 6-year old daughter four years ago in a drunk driving accident. The worst part, Rick says the child’s mother was the driver.

“I’m gonna tell you something. Life isn’t about getting high.”

“My little girl was killed from a mother who wanted to get high; drink, party and have fun.  It didn’t work out too well.  I’m going to show you something that is the end result of your partying on Friday nights, Saturday nights, whenever.  Want to get drunk, play around, get stupid?  This is what happens…”

Rick then turns the camera to a grave stone with the names Christy M. Johnson Ellis and Lindsey Kay Ellis. He then says, “This is my precious little girl who had been killed in a drunk driving accident.  Her mother had been partying for two days, staying up all night, drinking whiskey, having fun.  Everything was great.  Well, it ‘aint so great now.”

Rick said the two were crushed to death in an accident near Beaumont, Mississippi. The mother, Christy, was on her way to Gulf Shores Alabama.

His video has since gone viral.  Watch it below for his full plea.

MODESTO, Calif. (KTXL) – Forever Yours Home Furnishing has been open just over a week, and they’ve already had one visitor they didn’t expect.

In this YouTube video shot by a store employee, a young male deer can be seen weaving in between furniture.

Store Manager Carlos Loredo says a deer ran into the 9th Street store from a back alley entrance.

“It was running everywhere. It was blind in one eye so it was just hopping everywhere and it was scared of everybody,” Loredo said.

Once police arrived, they tried, unsuccessfully, to corral the deer for nearly 45 minutes. The deer then hit a window.

Using a catch pole they typically use to control wild dogs, two officers were able to “hog tie” the deer, in the middle of the furniture store.

“It started panicking. It started throwing itself and started trying to get the cord out of it’s neck and started hitting it’s face and cutting itself – it cut its antler and then broke its own leg,” Loredo said.

Modesto Police say they tried calling animal control several times, but never got a response. They also confirmed an officer on scene who was familiar with hunting, made the call to kill the injured deer with a knife.

The department says using a gun on the animal on the concrete floors, wouldn’t have been safe for everyone inside the store.

“He is familiar with the most humane way to euthanize an animal so he just said he used a knife and that was the best course of action at the time,” Modesto Police Spokesperson Heather Graves said.

It’s a sight that Loredo will never forget.

“They stabbed a hole through it’s neck. And then they sliced its stomach open,” Loredo said.

The dead deer was taken to animal control. It’s unclear where it came from.

Scott Cleveland had a beard for about four years.  His grandma has disliked that beard for about four years.

Two years ago Cleveland promised her that she would actually see his hairless face on her 100th birthday.

Cleveland kept that promise. And even let his grandma watch and help remove it.
