Saints edge Eagles, prepare for Seahawks

The Saints are headed back to Seattle, after their first road playoff win in franchise history.

Shayne Graham kicked a 32 yard field goal as time expired as the Saints beat the Eagles 26-24.Graham is now for 6-6 in field goal attempts after being signed to replace Garrett Hartley.

The Saints play at Seattle Saturday afternoon.

The Saints won despite Drew Brees throwing a pair of first half interceptions. The Saints rushed for 185 yards, the most by far in four road playoff games in the Sean Payton era.

“We realize that we were going to be able to run the football and be able to take what they give us, said Brees.” So, we had to sustain drives and go down and put points on the board.”

The Saints scored two third quarter touchdowns on a 24 yard Brees pass to Lance Moore and a 4 yard Ingram run.

“They are a great football team we are going to need our best effort,” said Brees of the trip to Seattle. But if there is a team that can do it, I believe it is us.”

WGNO’s Sandra Gonzalez reports a police officer approached a man in a champagne colored sedan. The officer tried to stop the driver but he wouldn’t talk or cooperate. When the man finally pulled over in in the 300 block of 18th Street near Fleur de Lis Drive in Lakeview, he put a gun to his head and shot himself while sitting in the car.

Officials are saying the deceased is Robert Rider, Jr. Rider died after arriving at a local hospital.

Rider was wanted for beating his father, 73-year-old Robert Rider, Sr., to death last Wednesday in Lakeview.

73-yearold Robert Rider Sr. was found dead in his home in the 5800 block of Milne Boulevard Tuesday morning around 11am.

According to police, Rider Sr. suffered blunt force trauma to the head and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office spokesman John Gagliano said he did not have information on how long Rider had been dead, and an exact cause of death would be determined in an autopsy on Wednesday.

NOPD says 53-year-old Rider, Jr. was the last person known to have been with his father.

Robert Rider, Jr. is believed to be traveling in his father’s white 2000 Nissan Frontier crew cab 4-door pick-up truck.  The truck’s license plate reads H0283856.  It has a short bed with a tool box attached.

Robert Rider, Jr. is currently wanted on a parole violation and is considered armed and dangerous.
