70198926-29225057-400225[1]The search is on for a group of men police say fired shots into a crowd of people and killed a 5-year old girl and a woman driving by.

It happened around 5:30 Tuesday in the 1200 block of Simon Bolivar in Central City.

The woman driving by was struck in the head by a stray bullet. She died at the scene.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu and New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas were on the scene. Both were outraged by the shooting.

“What are you going to do about a bunch of irrational uncaring bunch of thugs that open fire on a street with tons of people around,” Landrieu said.

“My grand baby was on my leg holding my leg but I didn’t know she was shot though. When she turned around all her guts was coming out and stuff,” the girl’s grandmother said.

In all there were five victims.

The 8-year old birthday boy and two adult males are expected to recover from their injuries.

Mayor Landrieu and Superintendent Serpas are asking anyone with information in the case to call Crimestoppers, at (504) 822-1111.
