Tonight Lisa North Hill is inconsolable. Her daughter, 6-year-old Ahlittia North will not be coming home.

“She had two very aggressive stab wounds to the neck which were probably her fatal wounds. She also had two stab wounds to her abdomen,” says Jefferson Parish Coroner Gerry Cvitanovich.

Detectives found the child wrapped in her comforter, inside a trash bag, in a garbage can just footsteps from her Harvey home.

Tonight they’re looking for 20-year-old Matthew Flugence who say  is wanted for the first-degree murder of North.

“Matthew Fluence was in and around those crime scenes multiple times Friday, Saturday and Sunday,” says Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand.

Flugence had babysat Ahlittia and is the nephew of the 6-year-old’s stepfather. Deputies say he’s also wanted for a sexual battery involving an 11-year-old. His last known address was a few doors down from Ahlittia.

“A big surprise; if I would have known that he’d a never been by my family,” says North’s stepfather Albert Hill.

Authorities say on Saturday, shortly after Ahlittia was reported missing from he home on the 2900 block of Destrehan Avenue, investigators found a pool of blood behind an apartment a few buildings away. After no leads they expanded the search, but returned to ground zero late last night once DNA results came back revealing that blood belonged to Ahlittia.

Investigators believe her body was dumped sometime between 7pm Sunday and last night.

They have arrested Russell Flugence, Matthew Flugence’s brother, for obstruction of justice. They believe he knew his brother may be linked to her disappearance.

Mother of Ahlittia North is inconsolable

The following is a synopsis of the news conference held by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office about the disappearance and murder of 6-year-old Ahlittia North from Harvey:

Matthew Flugence, 20, now wanted for first-degree murder of Ahlittia North and a sexual battery involving an 11-year-old. They do believe he is dangerous. Public should call 364-5300 if they see him.

His brother, Russell Flugence, 21, of Marrero, has been arrested and booked with obstruction of justice. Detectives believe he knew Matthew may be linked to North’s murder.

Sometime overnight Friday, 6-year-old Ahlittia North disappeared from her apartment in the 2900 block of Destrehan Avenue in Harvey while her family was sleeping.

On Saturday, detectives found a pool of blood and ammunition behind an apartment just footsteps from Ahlittia’s home. DNA testing showed the blood was Ahlittia’s.

Sheriff Newell Normand says it was odd that there was no blood trail.

Deputies searched garbage cans in the area Saturday and Sunday, and on Monday investigators expanded the search for Ahlittia into the Woodmere neighborhood.

ahlitta-north-692×384At around 1am Tuesday a JPSO investigator found the body of 6-year-old Ahlittia North in a garbage can that had been previously searched. Her body was under plywood, inside a garbage bag, wrapped in her blanket, and wearing the same clothes she was last photographed in.

Investigators say her body must have been dumped sometime between 7pm Sunday and Monday night.

JP coroner does not know a time of death, but says Ahlittia North suffered two aggressive stab wounds to the neck that most likely killed her. She also suffered two stab wounds to the abdomen and bruising throughout her body.

Sheriff says Matthew Flugence is the nephew of Ahlittia’s stepfather. He was often at their home babysitting. He has been seen in and around the crime scenes multiple times Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

At this time they are not sure if anyone else was involved in her murder and still have many unanswered questions.

Deputies found Ahlittia’s body shortly after midnight Tuesday morning in a dumpster near her home in Harvey. She had been stabbed twice in her neck, twice in her abdomen, and had bruising throughout her body.

During the news conference, deputies said 20-year-old Matthew Flugence had been seen near the crime scenes multiple times over the weekend. He is now JPSO’s primary suspect in the murder.


Neighbors: 6-year-old Harvey girl’s body has been found

Neighbors tell WGNO News that investigators have found the body of 6-year-old Ahlittia North, missing from her home in Harvey since Saturday.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office had scheduled a news conference to discuss details in the case for 10 a.m. Tuesday, but then postponed that meeting until 3 p.m.

Ahlittia’s mother told deputies she put the girl to bed Friday night and discovered her daughter missing and the front door to their apartment open the next morning.

Neighbors say deputies found Ahlittia’s body early Tuesday morning in a trash container a few blocks from her home, which has not been confirmed by the JPSO.

Deputies are still searching for a person of interest in the case: 20-year-old Matthew Flugence, who is wanted for sexual battery on another young girl in the same neighborhood.

Detectives have broadened their search efforts into the Woodmere area  of Harvey an have named a “Person of Interest.”

 North went missing sometime Friday night. Her mother last saw her asleep in her bed inside their apartment on the 2900 block of Destrahan Ave. by the time the family woke up Saturday morning they say the front door was open and the 6-year-old was gone. Also missing is Ahlittia’s blanket, toothbrush and toothpaste.

Crimestoppers is now offering g a $4,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
