Why do I see closed captions on the screen?

WGNO is complying with the FCC mandate to add captions to our internet video streams. Basically, WGNO programming must be captioned on the Internet if it is shown on TV with captions.

We are continuing to evaluate the technical options for presenting captions across the different platforms and devices our viewers use. In order to make sure we are complying with the FCC, we’ve decided to use an “open caption” method to best ensure that our captions are available to all viewers, regardless what kind of computer, tablet or smartphone they’re using to watch WGNO live video.

We continue to work on improving the captioning platform, including the possibility of offering viewers a way to turn captions off. Expect that functionality in the near future. Thank you!
