For $125 the artist will frame the print, and $25 will go to Archbishop Hannan High School.

According to a news release from the high school, U.S. Vatican Ambassador Lindy Boggs chose Hunt to create a portrait of Pope John Paul II as a gift from the people of Louisiana.

The Pope had previously made a personal appeal to artists asking them to use their talent in service to their community and humanity as a whole.

“It was an honor to meet and present to His Holiness my small contribution,” Hunt said.

To request your copy of the print, go to https://www.nolafineart.com/pope/.

Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer and prime boating season, so the U.S. Coast Guard kicked off National Boating Safety Week to make sure all boaters they have all the appropriate gear and safety equipment.

Coast Guard officers say your life jacket is only a life saver if you’re wearing it. Also, make sure you have flares, a fire extinguisher, anchor, and other required equipment.

“This equipment is important for us, for the members on board the vessel, in case they get into an emergency where they have to jettison or have to leave the vessel, or if they start sinking and taking on water,” explains Petty Officer Ken Cholak.

Coast Guard officers want to remind everyone that it’s not just important to have all the proper and required safety equipment, but you must know how to use it, too.

And as always, never drink and drive a boat.

(CNN) — Pounding rain soaked tornado-ravaged Moore, Oklahoma, on Thursday morning, and winds sent pieces of debris flying, hindering recovery efforts three days after the devastating tornado.

In addition to the 24 people killed in Monday’s massive twister, two people died elsewhere in the state in storms Sunday, the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management said.

“All people thought missing have been accounted for at this time,” Gov. Mary Fallin said.

In all, 377 people have been treated for injuries as a result of this week’s storms, the Department of Emergency Management said. It did not say how many were injured Monday. Fallin said on Twitter that the 377 were injured in the tornado Monday. However, a hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma, said it treated 11 people injured in the tornado there Sunday

Of the 24 people killed Monday, 10 were children — including two infants, the state medical examiner’s office said.

As water gushed through the streets Thursday, the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for the Oklahoma City area, including Moore, and a severe thunderstorm warning.

Strong storms in southwestern Oklahoma City “are making a (southeast) turn toward Moore,” the National Weather Service tweeted at 10:30 a.m. “Small hail, gusty winds, lightning and flooding main threats!”

But shortly after, the service said storms were moving out of the metropolitan Oklahoma City area. “Next chance of storms is late tonight,” the weather service tweeted.

Predictions of heavy wind gusts also brought with them the possibility, though slight, of an isolated twister in the area.

A group of people who rode out Monday’s ferocious tornado in a bank vault huddled together under a tarp early Thursday near a CNN crew.

More thunderstorms could be ahead for the region through Memorial Day weekend.

Officials estimate that 12,000 homes were damaged or destroyed by the EF5 tornado.

On Wednesday, a command center set up to help people with insurance processed 4,000 claims, Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John Doak said Thursday.

“We have it down to a science here,” he said.

Some people may choose to move to another neighborhood, but most are indicating they want to rebuild in Moore, Doak said.

The two elementary schools destroyed will be rebuilt, the incoming superintendent of Moore public schools said Thursday.

“That’s the beginning of the healing process,” Robert Romines said.

The schools did not have storm shelters. At one, Plaza Towers Elementary, seven children died.

Six were 9-year-olds who died from asphyxia, or suffocation; one was an 8-year-old killed by blunt force trauma, the state medical examiner’s office said.

Romines said he supports the effort to add storm shelters during the rebuilding. He called for funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to cover it.

Other schools that were rebuilt after a 1999 tornado have such shelters, he said. But numerous other schools don’t. “As funds become available, we will look at that,” Romines said, adding that money “is an obstacle.”

The school year was set to end Thursday.

High school commencement ceremonies will take place Saturday in downtown Oklahoma City, Romines said. The community will “do the best we can and make sure that our students are all taken care of.”

Let us pretend that you are employed by a local grocery store chain as a stock clerk. In your machinations up and down the store’s aisles you encounter customers that seem lost and in need of instruction to find what they are looking for. You usually stop and help, which is part of your job but on occasion you refuse to help to certain shoppers because they are dressed as fans of, say, Alabama. To extend the Bama fans misery, you have even told them to “stay right here, I’m going to look on another aisle and see if we have it” knowing full well you intended to leave the customer forever stranded and looking rather foolish.

One day you are summoned to your boss’s office and asked to explain why you have been tormenting Bama fans, whose money is as green as Tiger fans. Having just watched 6 hours of CSPAN you proudly tell your boss “I wish to invoke my Fifth Amendment privilege and not answer your question.” Ten minutes of “stonewalling” later, you are on the way to the unemployment office and Bama fans are now finding the double-fatted pork skins they were looking for.

This story perfectly illustrates the working conditions of almost every American: lie or refuse to tell your employer what you did while on his or her time and you will no longer BE on his or her time. Someone needs to tell IRS director Lois Lerner that Congress is her employer and Tea Party groups, claiming harassment, their customers.

Ms. Lerner “pled the fifth” in front of a Congressional hearing Tuesday claiming she “did nothing wrong”.

The Dr. Zachary Smith “I’m innocent!” defense may be truthful but it’s morally repugnant. While she is at what the rest of us call “work,” Ms. Lerner should be subject to the same rules the rest of us are the fact that she works for the government makes that all the more necessary.

The next time you receive a tax bill from the IRS, try the “I’m innocent…will not pay…and am pleading the Fifth” defense. When you’re finished, say hi to Wesley Snipes for me.

Their urban adventures have turned heads on the street and garnered big hits on YouTube.

The 26-year-old bike courier didn’t intend to become internet-famous. He originally shot footage of the outings only to prove to his mom that he was taking Mary Jane for a spin.

Officers responded to a call about a traffic accident eastbound on the Pontchartrain Expressway portion of I-10. Investigators say the shooting happened around 4:45 a.m. at the Broad Street overpass.

Officers and emergency responders say when they arrived on the scene, they found a black Infiniti Coupe which had struck a concrete barrier and been riddled with bullet holes.

The victim was also found unresponsive, shot multiple times and still in the driver’s seat, investigators say. The shooting is under investigation.

Detectives are in the process of identifying suspects and motives.
