  • JPSO: Man killed in Kenner shooting

    KENNER – A man is dead after a Sunday night shooting in Kenner. According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s office, someone called 911 just before 9:30 p.m. to say they were bringing a shooting victim to East Jefferson General Hospital. The victim later died. Investigators say he had been shot at the corner of Calhoun and Ford Streets. Anyone with information is asked to call the JPSO Investigations Bureau at (504) 364-5300.

    New Orleans – A man is dead after a shooting Thursday night in Algiers. According to the NOPD, the shooting happened just before 8:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Flanders Street. No further details have been released.

    New Orleans – Police are investigating a shooting that left a man wounded in Algiers. It happened just before 10 p.m. Tuesday in the 3500 block of Garden Oaks Drive. Police haven’t released the victim’s condition or a description of the shooter.

    Emergency road closure in Metairie

    METAIRIE – Central Avenue between Heaslip Avenue and Karen Avenue will be closed Tuesday through Thursday for emergency railroad track repairs. All lanes of Central Avenue will close in both directions from 9 a.m. Tuesday through 5 p.m. Thursday. Central Avenue will be open to local traffic only and all through traffic should use Clearview Parkway as an alternate. CN Railroad crews need to make emergency repairs to the railroad tracks.

    New Orleans – Police are investigating a deadly shooting in Algiers. Police say the victim was shot around 12:21 a.m. Monday in the 6300 block of Woodland Highway. No further details have been released.

  • Firefighters discover body in New Orleans East trash fire

    New Orleans – Firefighters discovered a body after putting out a trash fire Saturday night. The New Orleans Fire Department responded to the 8400 block of Old Gentilly Road just before 9:30 p.m. and found a fire burning in a large metal shipping container. Firefighters put out the fire and found a body under a pile of tires and wooden pallets. The incident has been turned over to the New Orleans Police Department.

    New Orleans – The Sewerage & Water Board says residents need to be prepared for potential flooding in some areas of the city Sunday night due to the cold ground. In an emailed statement to WGNO-TV, the agency says that while National Weather Service-predicted rainfall Sunday night into Monday of 2-4 inches isn’t that high, the “cold ground may not absorb the rain as fast as it would under warmer conditions.” The S&WB says residents should prepare by clearing their […]

  • Two wounded in French Quarter shooting

    New Orleans – Police are investigating a double-shooting in the French Quarter. Police say two men were shot near the intersection of Iberville and Royal Streets around 4:17 a.m. Saturday. One of the men was shot in the leg; the other in the arm. Both were taken to the hospital in stable condition.

  • NOPD: Shooting in 9th Ward

    New Orleans – Police are investigating a shooting in the Lower 9th Ward. According to the NOPD, it took place in the 100 block of Alice Court just before midnight. No further information is available.

    New Orleans – Mayor-Elect Latoya Cantrell holds her first public transition event Thursday. It will take place at 6 p.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church located at 1923 St. Philip Street.   • NOPD investigates first homicide of 2018

    New Orleans – Police are investigating the first homicide of the year. Officers responded to a call just after 11 p.m. Monday night in the 3300 block of North Miro Street in the 9th Ward. They found two men who had been shot; one later died at the hospital. Investigators are gathering evidence. So far a suspect has not been identified.  

  • Treme woman shoots burglar in bedroom

    New Orleans – A Treme woman woke up to a man inside her bedroom and shot him, according to the NOPD. It happened around 3:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of Esplanade Avenue. Police say the 76-year-old victim was awakened by a loud noise and saw man in her bedroom. She told police he was armed with an unknown object. That’s when she grabbed her gun and shot him once.
