ST. JAMES PARISH, La. (WGNO) - One thing St. James Parish is known for is its grant plantations.

Just an hour away from New Orleans on the great River Road, you can step back into time.

Oak Alley Plantation welcomes visitors with its quarter-mile tunnel of 300-year-old live oak trees. When you get to the end of the road, you'll find a magnificent home and a lot of history.

Down the river from Oak Alley is Laura, a Creole plantation. Go through its doors and see Creole furnishings and tour slave cabins.

Or, you can take a walk through time and visit St. Joseph Plantation, which has been owned by the same family for more than 135 years.
