Metairie (WGNO) – Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand confirmed tonight one of his deputies suffered a graze wound to the hand during a multi-parish car chase involving a kidnapping on the North Shore.  The victim escaped, but officers followed the vehicle across the Causeway Bridge and Huey P. Long Bridge.  Normand said officers and the perpetrator exchanged gunfire several times during the chase.  The sheriff said the suspect is alive and still in his truck on Highway 90 near Jamie Boulevard in Avondale.  Normand said the victim is safe and uninjured.  The SWAT team has been called to the location to try to get the suspect to surrender to deputies.
