Morganza, La. (WGNO) – Shortly before 3:00 pm on November 12, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash on LA 1 near LA 420 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash took the life of a 21 year old Christopher Armster and his passenger, 34 year old James Guidry, both of Morganza, LA.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Armster was traveling southbound on LA 1 in a 1996 Honda Accord. At the same time, 39 year old Roberto Mendosa of Lakeland, LA was also traveling southbound on LA 1 in a 2014 Kenworth 18-wheeler. Armster was traveling at a high rate of speed when he failed to stop and struck the rear of Mendosa’s vehicle.
Armster and Guidry were unrestrained at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries. They were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Pointe Coupee Parish Coroner’s Office. Mendosa was properly restrained and was not injured. Speed and impairment are suspected to be factors in the crash. A toxicology sample will be taken from both drivers for analysis.
Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that impaired driving continues to be a major problem throughout Louisiana. Whether impaired through alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two, the consequences of driving while impaired remain the same. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
