NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – As the weather gets cooler and the sun sets earlier, your wine choices will change as well.
Richard Ellis, manager of Brady’s Wine Warehouse on Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard, has the low-down on fall wines.
“Fall whites are going to be slightly heavier and richer than their summer counterparts,” Ellis explains. “They are not intended to be lemon, lime refreshing acid-driven thing to drink by the pool or on the porch. These are served slightly warmer. They are more savory and herb-driven, with more tree fruit in the realm of apples, pears and peaches.”
Ellis recommends a nice Cotes du Rhone or a Chateau la Nerthe Chateauneuf-du-Pape. If you’re looking for something that doesn’t come from the Rhone Valley, you can try the California Viognier from Darioush.
“It`s much more peach-pit and apricot driven with beautiful floral notes. It`s very full and very rich,” Ellis notes.
All three wines pair beautifully with fall cuisine and foods that are starting to show up in grocery stores.
