SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) – New Orleanian Bobby Reno, a mainstay in local radio for decades, has died.

Reno, 72, passed away at his home in Slidell following a brief illness.

He started in radio at the legendary WTIX AM on the weekend of Hurricane Betsy in 1965, and for the last 21years he has been on WTIX FM 94.3.

He was the first rock program director for 99.5 WRNO (The Rock of New Orleans), first in 1969-70 and an on-air personality for many years.

He also rocked New Orleans as program director for both 101.1 WNOE and Classic Rock 92.3 WCKW. His 51-year broadcast career also brought him to Memphis and St. Louis radio, but Reno said his heart was always at TIX in the Crescent City.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
