NC grocery store sells Hurricane Matthew baked goods: creative or tacky?

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WGNO) – Thursday afternoon while shopping for hurricane supplies and food, Wilmington National Weather Service Meteorologist Sandy LaCorte saw Hurricane Matthew themed cakes and cupcakes in the bakery department of a local Harris Teeter grocery store.

At this time, the track of Matthew kept the storm away from the SC/NC boarder, but LaCorte still found the pastries in poor taste. The death toll in Haiti from Hurricane Matthew is now 842, and was around 200 when these products were on sale. The United States had not yet seen the Hurricane force winds of Matthew, yet it had been broadcasted for days on the potential destruction it could bring.

Some folks see the items as a harmless way to make the best of a bad situation, but others in the path of the storm may think otherwise. What are your thoughts? Creative, or does it leave a bad taste in your mouth?
