NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Halloween is just around the corner! Our producer, Taylor Feingold, is showing us a new do it yourself costume each day this month.

Today’s DIY costume is great to wear to parties, but honestly, I’m not sure how women used to actually cook and clean in outfits like these!

I started with a retro looking dress. There are many silhouettes to choose from, here are some examples:

A common design element is a cinching at the waist, which is very flattering!

For shoes, I chose a pointy high heel, but this costume would also look great paired with a nice flat. I searched my house for a suitable apron but I came up with nothing, so this is where my creativity stepped in! What I’m wearing is not actually an apron, it’s a pillowcase that I folded in half and tied on with a thin scarf. All of the WGNO staff thought it was the real thing.

I jazzed up the look with a large pearl necklace, but small pearls would definitely look great. Makeup is bold and simple, just a liquid lines cat eye, and a red lip. As for hair, there are many styles that work with this look. I decided on victory rolls because it was the easiest for me to accomplish. Curls are a great go to.

Check back tomorrow to see what kind of other costume tricks I have up my sleeve. Happy Halloween!
