NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) - For the rest of October, the SPCA is offering cat adoptions for just $10. Dr. Rachel tells us the story of one cat who had a hard start in life.

George is a normal, happy and healthy kitty, but she wasn't always that way.  Sara Dowdy, a kitten foster parent, says the Lousiana SPCA called her to be an emergency foster for a one-day-old kitty.

"She had come in and she was injured, she was bleeding, and she had actually maggots in the wound, and they weren't sure that she was going to make it. The odds were so tough just for a newborn kitten like that," she says.

Getting ready to pull the plug and then … a wiggling toe

Sara decided to foster George, and she grew into a healthy kitty. Now Sara tells WGNO that George is not only surviving, but thriving as well.

"She's happy every day. She just makes the most out of life, and it's quite inspiring to see how she is such a very positive influence and just a source of joy. She lives with a lot of joy," Dowdy says.

A fun fact about George? She loves to play fetch, especially with mouse toys.

George is now at the Lousiana SPCA, waiting for her forever home.
