Three dead, two injured after tow truck hits pedestrians in Mid-City

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Three people died this afternoon and two others were injured after a tow-truck struck four pedestrians at the intersection of South Carrollton and Tulane avenues.

According to NOPD, officers responded to the crash just before 5 p.m. The tow truck driver was traveling south on Tulane Avenue when, for unknown reasons, he left the roadway and struck the four pedestrians. Two were pronounced dead at the scene. A third died at a local hospital.

The fourth pedestrian and the tow truck driver were taken to a local hospital for their injuries.

The tow truck driver also drove through a fence and into the MidCity Shopping Center parking lot, striking several parked vehicles.

The investigation is ongoing. It’s unclear whether the tow truck driver is facing charges in connection with the fatal crash.
