NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Local award-winning playwright Lisa D’Amour’s work celebrates the night owls of the French Quarter, the ones who live along the frayed edges of New Orleans.

Southern Rep Theatre and the University of New Orleans bring her work to life at UNO’s Robert E. Nims Theatre close to where the play is set – in the parking lot of the dilapidated Hummingbird Hotel along the infamous Airline Highway.  The play is called “Airline Highway.”

The production includes a well-known cast of local stage, film and television actors playing roles based on recognizable New Orleans characters including Chris Owens, Big Freedia and Danny Kerwick. The cast includes many great actors, including Todd d’Amour, Janet Shea, Lance E. Nichols, Carl Palmer and Thomas Francis Murphy.

Southern Rep Theatre is kicking off its 30th season October 5-30, with the first local production of AIRLINE HIGHWAY – a story following quintessential New Orleans characters through a not so quintessential event – the ‘living funeral’ of one of their own.

Opening night is October 10.  For ticket information, click HERE.
