The Willie Fritz era at Tulane began with a stout defensive effort, but no victory.

Despite holding Wake Forest to 10 first downs and 175 yards, the Wave fell 7-3 Thursday night in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Tulane took a 3-0 first quarter lead. Sherman Badie ran for 22 yards to the Wake Forest 29. That set up a 42 yard field goal by Andrew DiRocco.

Wake took the lead. But, Tulane had several chances to score.

In the fourth quarter, Tulane quarterback Glen Cuiellette, in his first college start, threw 46 yards to running back Josh Rounds. But, Tulane later turned the ball over on downs.

Cuiellette was 12 of 23 passing for 134 yards. He also carried the ball 22 times for 54.
