UPDATE: 5-year-old returned after parental kidnapping
UPDATE: NOPD says Gianna Ward was returned to her family in good health this afternoon (September 1).
A warrant has been filed for Glend Ford, 42, for interfering with the custody of a child.
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A 5-year-old is missing after what NOPD calls a parental kidnapping.
According to NOPD, Glend Ford, 42, took his 5-year-old daughter Gianna Ward Wednesday evening from the 3500 block of Monroe Street. He is not the legal guardian, and he did not have permission to take her.
The guardian said she doesn’t believe the child is in danger, but told police that Ford told her “police will have to kill him to take her back.”
Gianna Ward is about 4-foot tall and has long hair in plats with two long plats on the sides. She was last seen wearing a peach shirt with white lace trim, a peach skort with white lace trim and peach sandals.
Glend Ford is about 6-foot, 2 inches tall and was wearing a beige Polo-style shirt and faded blue jeans. He was last seen driving a gray 2003 or 2004 Infinity sedan with unknown plates.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Gianna Ward and Glend Ford is asked to notify Second District detectives at 504-658-6020.
