Brees says Kaepernick should protest, but not sit during national anthem

Saints quarterback Drew Brees spoke with local media Tuesday about his comments to ESPN about 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick refused to stand for the national anthem for the 49ers preseason game against Green Bay, touching off a national controversy.

Kaepernick said he did so because of the country’s treatment of African Americans and other minorities.

Brees said he agreed with why Kaepernick was protesting, but not his method. Here are Brees’ comments:

Brees is expected to play in Thursday night's preseason finale against Baltimore at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Head coach Sean Payton told reporters Tuesday he plans to play his starters in the first quarter.

The Saints cut their roster to 75. And, the club may be adding veteran defensive lineman Paul Kruger. Kruger visited the Saints dressing room Tuesday.
