‘Baton Rouge, this is for you’: Olympian gets emotional about hometown flooding

BATON ROUGE, La. (WGNO) – An Olympian is sending her love to the thousands of people in her hometown affected by the historic, deadly floods.

Seimone Augustus, 32, is a Baton Rouge native who helped lead the U.S. women’s basketball team to a gold medal over the weekend.

At a press conference after the game, Augustus, an LSU grad, became emotional when asked about the struggles that people in her hometown are facing.

“I’m just filled with joy that I was able to do something to make my family, my friends, and everyone who’s been affected by the flooding proud… It means a lot, and Baton Rouge, this is for you,” she said.
