Target and Tickfaw church hand out truck load of water

HAMMOND, LA — Retail giant Target and the Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church of Tickfaw are spending Friday afternoon, Aug. 19, handing out more than 20,000 bottles of water to flood victims and others helping with the recovery effort in Tangipahoa and Livingston parishes.

Target also organized a similar distribution of water at its store on Siegen Lane in Baton Rouge.

Workers planned to spend the afternoon handing out 24 bottle cases in the Target parking lot in Hammond. Any remaining cases will be passed along to other relief groups or organizations that can also distribute them.

Many of the people receiving the cases of water could hardly find room in their cars which were already full of personal belongings salvaged from their flooded homes.

Others said their homes will need little or no repairs, but that they have neighbors or relatives with damage. They planned to distribute the water to the crews working on their streets to gut and repair houses.
