Airline Highway flooded near Gramercy, I-10 exit closed

Gramercy exit flooding

GRAMERCY, La. (WGNO) – The Airline Highway exit on I-10 near Gramercy is closed due to high water.

Photos taken by WGNO Chief Photographer Patrick Thomas show standing water on the exit ramp.

The new flooding in St. James Parish is the result of backwater flooding, which happens when flood waters have nowhere to go because there’s too much water flowing into rivers and lakes. St. James Parish has been under a flood warning since Monday evening.

Twelve people have died in the historic floods. Twenty parishes have been declared federal disaster areas.

One man died in Livingston Parish. Three people died in Tangipahoa Parish, two people died in St. Helena Parish, five people died in East Baton Rouge Parish and one person died in Rapides Parish.
