CHALMETTE, La. (WGNO) - A fire at an abandoned apartment complex in Chalmette has been deemed suspicious, Fire Chief Tommy Stone said Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were called to the two-alarm fire about 4 a.m. near the intersection of West Judge Perez Drive and De Le Ronde Drive. When they arrived, the complex was engulfed in flames.

The fire chief said this is the third time this complex has caught on fire. He told WGNO the apartments haveĀ been abandoned since Hurricane Katrina and no electricity or other utilities were servicing it.

The complex is located behind the Village Square Shopping Center.

No injuries were reported at this time.
