ORLANDO (WGNO) – The Metairie native who was shot in the head during the Orlando massacre in June has recovered enough to post on Facebook.
In his Facebook post, Leonel Melendez of Metairie thanks everyone for all the support.
“It’s going to be a good few months of recovery but with God’s help and my wonderful family/friends I will make it,” he says.
Melendez was among the 100-plus people who were shot inside Pulse nightclub in the early morning hours of June 12 in the worst attack since 9/11. The shooter, Omar Mateen, killed 50 people and injured at least 53 more.
Melendez, 38, is from Metairie and was living in Orlando at the time of the shooting. He was shot twice – once in the head and once in the thigh – and had to be revived twice.
