June 20: National Ice Cream Soda Day!

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) - Everyone loves ice cream and everyone loves soda...but the combination is better than you can even imagine! David Bergeron, owner of Creole Creamery, shows us how he makes a traditional ice cream soda.

A traditional ice cream soda is made up of four main components:

  1. Ice Cream
  2. Milk
  3. Syrup Flavoring
  4. Soda Water

To make this classic, just mix the ingredients together, and top it with a scoop of ice cream, whipped cream and, of course, a cherry.

If you want to taste one of these delicious drinks done right, head to Creole Creamery - one of the only places in the city that still serves traditional ice cream sodas. You can order a chocolate, vanilla, strawberry or nectar soda. If you've never had nectar, it's time to check it out.

The nectar flavor originated in New Orleans. David Bergeron says that it tastes like liquid candy, and the combination of vanilla, almond, and the bright pink color are sure to put a smile on your face!
