NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Beginning in the middle of the month, expect to see order forms at your home, job, and just about anywhere else for Girl Scout Cookies.

Sales officially begin on January 15, but the build up begins a week ahead of time with a series of rallies that include safety rules and selling tips for Girl Scouts.

But one area university is going a step further by offering a class for older Girl Scouts.  It’s called “Smart Cookie U” and is being offered at Dillard University.  The opening guest speaker will be Lauren Thom, founder of Fleurty Girl.  Attendance for the class is capped at 250 girls, and registration ended in December.  The class will focus on everything from setting goals and decision making to money management and people skills.

Also, Girl Scouts now have an app that allows them to track sales from their mobile devices.  The scouts will also have a new cookie baker, ABC Bakers.

In the New Orleans area, cookie flavors will include Thin Mint, Shortbread, Peanut Butter Patties, Caramel deLites, Lemonades, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Thanks-A-Lot, Cranberry Citrus Crisps, and a gluten-free flavor called Trios.

Cookie sales end March 13.
