2016 brings increased sales taxes to make the French Quarter safer

New Orleans (WGNO)--With a new year comes new laws.

Starting this month, sales taxes will go up in the French Quarter Economic Development District for more security in the Quarter.

It's an extra 25 cents per hundred dollars.

The new tax will raise an estimated two million dollars a year over the next five years.

Back in October, voters decided to put more state police on patrol in the French Quarter.
