Holiday season is in full swing, and whether it’s holiday parties with friends, family, co-workers, festive cocktails are almost always the common theme. And if you’re watching your waistline, our choice of mixer can make the difference between a figure-friendly holiday cocktail, or a sugar-filled calorie bomb!
In today’s Get the Skinny with Molly, we’ve got top picks and worst bets for holiday cocktail mixers that can make the difference of adding zero calories –or 400 calories per cocktail!
Tip: Turn any cocktail into a holiday cocktail with festive garnish like fresh cranberries, fresh mint, or little “trees” made with a sprig of rosemary + raspberry.
Sparking Water (e.g. lime, grapefruit, berry flavors)
Swerve Simple Syrup: Mix ½ cup Swerve Sweetener + ½ cup water, heated in small sauce pan over medium heat, stirring until dissolved.
Republic of Tea Peppermint Cuppa Chocolate Tea – hot or iced.
Tip: Bartender Mark Schettler of Bar Tonique suggests pairing hot peppermint chocolate tea with aged rum or a good Irish whiskey. For iced peppermint tea, he suggests pairing it with bourbon for a drink that’s like a long mint julep, but more tannic than sweet.
100% juices (e.g. cranberry juice, pineapple juice)
Diet soft drinks (e.g. Coke Zero, Sprite Zero)
Half and half (e.g. Brandy Milk Punch) – 40 calories per ounce
Ginger beer (e.g. Moscow Mule) – nearly 200 calories and 48 grams sugar per 12 ounces - more than a Coca-Cola!
