NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)- We all know music is part of our city's soul...and musicians from all over like to record here.
News with a Twist Reporter Kenny Lopez met a singer-songwriter from the Big Apple who wanted her new album to have that special Big Easy feel!
For singer-songwriter, Jennifer Vazquez, there's something in the New Orleans air!
"New Orleans has this spirit, this grit, this soul," she said.
Living in New Orleans, we've heard that you don't choose New Orleans; New Orleans chooses you, and in Jennifer's case she's a native New Yorker that believes she was chosen to record her new album not in the Big Apple, but in the Big Easy!
For the last 16 days she's been in NOLA recording at Wren Lemieux's recording studio.
"My concept for the album was staying away from New York. I wanted my album to have a New York vibe, but a feel of somewhere else. New York is focused and very hustle bustle. New Orleans is let's get down and dirty, and let's just sing it out. My producer Wren told me not to worry if I'm singing the right or wrong notes, but to just sing," Vazquez said.
While recording here she said she feels this freedom.
"In New York, you're getting it done, but in New Orleans, it feels as if there's a heartbeat running through you. I really appreciate all the music that's here. It's fed me throughout the process of this whole album," she said.
For the last 16 years, she's been an award winner for the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). Her new single, "Getting Out Of My Own Way" is featured in the hit HBO comedy, "Sleeping with The Fishes". She's recorded 5 albums, 2 EPs, and released 3 singles. Vazquez recently toured Sweden, and is now working on the album that is being funded by "CrowdFunder". The album is set to be released the album in the Summer of 2016.
